1) ENROLLMENT DOCUMENTS, RESIDENCE PERMIT,VAT,VISITOR TAX
Enrollment DocumentsThe following documents are issued for each successful applicant:
• Provisional Acceptance Letter
• Confirmation Letter/Invoice
After we have received your deposit payment of CHF 3’000.- or if you wish to take out the cancellation insurance, CHF 3’300.- we will send you the confirmation letter.
Residence Permit/ Visitor Tax
HIM will apply for your residence permit as soon as you arrive in Switzerland. All costs to the authorities are included. Foreign nationals staying in Switzerland for more than one week have to pay a daily tax to the local authorities. HIM covers this tax.
VAT
All expenses for VAT (Value Added Tax) are covered in your fees.
2) PRE-DEPARTURE ASSISTANCE, INTRODUCTION WEEK-END
Pre-Departure Orientation Session
In many countries, HIM or its local representatives organize Pre- Departure orientation sessions about 2 weeks before leaving for Switzerland.
Welcome Desk
During arrival weekend, HIM has a Welcome Desk at Geneva Airport to provide HIM students with any help they may require on arrival in Switzerland. HIM organizes transportation from Geneva Airport to Montreux, at an additional charge of CHF 175.- one way.
Introduction Workshops
Check-in Workshops are organized on Saturday and Sunday of the arrival weekend to help students to get important information about their stay in Switzerland.
3) ACADEMICS
Tuition
Tuition by qualified and experienced lecturers. The number of lessons depends on selected program and year of study.
Books &Teaching Material
Excellent, modern, up-to-date books, as well as all required teaching materials are included in the fees.
Academic Guidance
The Program Leaders or Academic Dean guide students through the academic term and are available to solve any academic problems that may occur.
Study Advisor
1st and 2nd year students with initial difficulties in certain subjects can request a study advisor, who is normally a student of the same nationality. A maximum of 10 hours per semester are covered by HIM Additional hours are charged at CHF 10.- per hour.
Internet
Students have free access to the internet in either the Internet Cafe, the internet computer room or by using the HIM wireless internet connection.
Library
Students have free access to the Library. An experienced librarian is available to offer assistance.
Graduation & Final Qualification
At the end of the chosen academic program, graduates, relatives and friends are invited to participate in the Awards Ceremony.
4) INTERNSHIP SERVICES
The HIM Internship Office assists students in the 1st year of the Main Program and the PGD Program to find an internship in Switzerland or abroad.
CV Interview/ Job Interviews/ Work Contract
During the CV Interview, the Internship Officer will discuss with each student their Curriculum Vitae and update it in the HIM database. As soon as a hotel/restaurant confirms interest, a job interview will be arranged. Students will be provided with details regarding the location of the interview and requested preparation. The work contract is then signed directly between the employer and the student.
Assistance during Internship
The HIM Internship Office remains available to offer any assistance or help requested during the internship period.
Internship Visits
An HIM Internship Officer normally visits the students during their internship placement.
Assistance for 2nd/3rd year students
2nd year students are encouraged to find their own internship as part of their academic skills development. However, the Internship Office remains available if help is requested.
Internship Report
The Internship Office establishes, together with the employer, an Internship report at the end of the employment period.
5) ACCOMMODATION
Rooms
Included in the fees is accommodation in a Standard Double room. HIM also offers a range of more exclusive rooms.

Bedlinen/ towels
Bedlinen and towels are provided for all room categories. Towels are changed once per week by the housekeeping department. Bedlinens are changed every two weeks or upon request.
Cleaning of rooms
Rooms are cleaned once per week by the housekeeping department.
6) MEALS
Meals
All meals are included 7 days/week: 3 meals from Monday - Friday, Brunch and Dinner on weekends. Students can choose from one of the 3 HIM food outlets.
“Lakeside” Cafeteria
The International Buffet Cafeteria in “Europe” serves a range of Western and on occasions, Asian food. A salad buffet is also available.
French Restaurant - “One 5”
The French Training Restaurant in “Europe” serves traditional French food from an “A la Carte” Menu.
“Garden Café”
The Self-Service Cafeteria in “Miramonte” serves a variety of international food.
Special Diet
• For vegetarians, a special main course is available. • For students who cannot eat pork or beef due to religious reasons, other choices will be available.
7) LEISURE
FacilitiesAll facilities as describe in the brochure are available to students.
Sports clubs
Students can join any of the sports clubs which include volleyball, soccer and basketball.
Excursions
Two optional excursions per term are included in the fees: One professional visit (visit to a hotel or a tradefair), one shopping/sightseeing coach excursion.
In-house Parties
A number of in-house parties and activities are organized by the Student Committee and often sponsored by HIM.
8) INSURANCE AND SOCIAL ASSISTANCE
Insurance
Students are covered during the academic term in case of illness or accident. Details of the insurance conditions are stated in the Student Handbook. Students keep this same insurance during their internship and benefit from a discounted monthly premium of approx. CHF 110.-/month.
Social Assistance
Our student counselor is available for any personal or medical assistance required. For serious situations they will arrange medical assistance.
9) HIM BUSINESS SUIT & UNIFORMS
A HIM uniform is included for 1st year and PGD students: • 1 business suit (1 jacket plus 1 pair of trousers or 1 skirt)
10) AFTER GRADUATION SERVICES & ALUMNI
After Graduation
HIM prides itself on its graduate placement services. HIM runs a fulltime Placement Office that assists students to find opportunities for employment after graduation.
Alumni
Membership to the HIM Alumni is included for graduate students. Alumni events are organized in many countries around the world.
