Academic Information
Our programs at HIM are designed to develop hospitality and management skills in order to prepare graduates for high-end management positions. Programs are taught in a traditional, yet dynamic Swiss manner and combine the best of Swiss Hospitality practices with American Management expertise.
Official Language
English is the official language of study at HIM.
English Foundation Program
For students whose English ability is below the required entry level, a partially sponsored SEG English Foundation Program is offered at the SEG Language Center in Le Bouveret. Course duration is between 4 to 20 weeks.
Foreign Languages
Foreign languages are vital skills in the hospitality industry. HIM offers a range of French, German or Spanish classes.
Teaching Materials
HIM uses modern teaching materials to ensure that the content of every program is “State-of-the-Art”.
Transfer Agreements
HIM credits are generally transferable to other institutions of higher learning.
Internships
Years 1 and 2 of the main program and the postgraduate programs include a 4 to 6 month internship either in Switzerland or abroad. Internships offer a unique opportunity to enhance both the acquired practical and language skills as students will normally do their internship either in the French or German speaking part of Switzerland. These skills are highly sought after in the hospitality industry.
Internship Office
The HIM Internship Office assists students in finding employment in a hotel or restaurant in Switzerland or abroad. The HIM Internship Coordinator will visit students on internship and is always available for any assistance required during the placement period.
Internship Salary
By law, Swiss employers are required to remunerate students at prevailing industry trainee rates. Gross salary per month: CHF 2168.- to CHF 2450.-. Deductions for food, accommodation, tax and insurance are about CHF 1000.-. International internship salaries vary depending on the conditions in the selected country.
